Sheila knows the museum and its artworks inside and out. He didn’t just show us art; he gave the building and the pieces their backstories, gossip included. Thanks to his stories, the artworks actually stuck with us instead of blurring together. We walked out feeling smarter, more entertained, and very glad we didn’t just wander around on our own. Our first day of touring was a disaster: a group of at least 30 people and a guide who had no real knowledge of Parisian history. We were extremely disappointed. Thankfully, the concierge at our hotel finally found us a guide for the Louvre, and we could not have dreamed of anything better. He was pleasant, highly knowledgeable, a true historian, and the fast-track entry to the Louvre was invaluable. In just 90 minutes, we were able to see all the masterpieces.
